No taxi strike under way in Rome
Taxis are running normally. The most recent strikes were on 13 January 2026 (national) and 27 June 2026 (Rome, from 8am to 10pm).
How a taxi strike works
Strikes are called by the unions with at least ten days' notice and appear on the Ministry of Transport calendar. They normally last a day and often cover daytime hours only — 8am to 10pm, for instance — with a normal service either side. Support is never total: some drivers work, so 06 3570, 06 6645 and 06 5551 may still answer on a strike day, with longer waits. The ranks at Termini and the airports are where the shortage bites hardest.
The 2026 strikes
- 13 January 2026: a national strike across the trade, with a demonstration in Rome outside parliament, against the rules on platforms and on hire cars.
- 27 June 2026: a 24 hour strike by Roman drivers, with a stoppage from 8am to 10pm, against unlicensed hire cars and over promises the trade considered unkept by the city.
What to do on a strike day
Use the hours outside the stoppage
If the strike runs 8am to 10pm, a taxi at 7am or at 10.30pm is business as usual. For a flight, book the evening before for a time outside the strike hours.
Metro, trains and buses
For Fiumicino, the Leonardo Express (€14, 32 minutes) and the FL1; for Ciampino, the SIT and Terravision buses; within the city, the three metro lines until 11.30pm (1.30am on Fridays and Saturdays) and the night buses marked "N".
