Ciampino airport taxi: €40 to the centre, €55 to Fiumicino
Ciampino sits 15 kilometres from the centre and the taxi fare is set by the city council: €40 per car to the historic centre, Tiburtina and Ostiense, luggage included. Here are all the fares, where to find a car and when the bus makes more sense.

Where to find a taxi
Ciampino has a single terminal: the taxis wait at the rank just outside arrivals, with a queue and marshals directing people when it gets busy. The same rules as Fiumicino apply — a white car, TAXI on the roof, the licence number on the doors — and nobody who approaches you inside the terminal is a taxi driver. Going back to Ciampino from an address inside the walls the fare is €40 again: book the evening before on 06 3570, 06 6645 or 06 5551, above all for the 6am low-cost departures.
Bus or taxi
Buses to Termini (SIT, Terravision, Schiaffini/Atral) cost €6 to €7 a head and take 40 to 60 minutes depending on traffic; the train alternative means a local bus to Ciampino station and then a regional train to Termini, with one ATAC ticket and one Trenitalia ticket. For three or four people a €40 taxi costs about the same as the bus and drops you at the hotel door; travelling alone in daytime, the bus wins. At night, and with suitcases, the taxi is the only comfortable option.

About 30 to 40 minutes to Termini or the historic centre, by via Appia Nuova or Tuscolana; in the evening rush it can stretch to 50.
